COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT LITERACY COORDINATOR

OCALS (Orleans County Accredited Learning Services) is a not-for-profit agency that promotes and fosters literacy in Orleans County.  Individuals, families, groups and organizations can access free and confidential services through our agency to improve their literacy skills.  We are affiliated with and accredited by Pro-Literacy, a nationally based accreditation agency.

We are looking for an organized self-starter to join our team and expand our coverage throughout the county (including local schools and community groups).  Building links with community agencies, recruiting tutors and volunteers to help achieve OCALS’ objective in identifying and working with individuals and groups in need of improving their literacy skills is crucial to the mission of our agency.  You will provide supervision and training to our tutors along with actual literacy services as needed.

The ideal candidate must have demonstrated excellent communication skills (oral and written) as you will be meeting with other community groups and individuals to promote and grow our agency.  Strong presentation skills, along with proficiency in various computer programs and social media platforms is crucial. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

A degree in Reading or Education, Human Services or similar field is desired.  Applicant must be able to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends) as needed and travel within the county.

Pay is $20/hour with a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 42 hours per month.
